A note from Brad

Hi everyone. This is Brad, speaking through Kate’s fingertips. I’m sorry I haven’t posted anything in my own words on this blog for a long time, but I’ve never liked the idea of dictating to someone else, even in this manner. Besides, for a long time I was too sick to formulate any thought I felt was worth sharing. Now, however, I am feeling considerably better and more coherent, but my vision is still too poor to permit me to read, write, or type. Kate and my mother have been reading many of your messages and blog comments to me and I want to acknowledge them, thank you for them, and let you know that my spirits are good and that I am continuing to recover. I value your good wishes and engagement with my situation more than you can know. This is the hardest period of my life so far, but it will come to an end eventually, and I look forward to being able to communicate normally again.

Yours,
Brad

  1. I second Garrett’s remarks, old friend. All your hockey buddies know that your cantankerous spirit is serving you well. Keep on fighting, professor. And keep on smiling.

  2. BRADLEY!!! So nice to hear from the horse’s mouth! If you had the pleasure of seeing our Mr Glebe performance, I’m sure Terrence would concur, that two rooting tooting smurfing cowboy heroes are cheering for you – and many many non smurfing cowboy and cowgirl heroes besides. (And if you didn’t have the pleasure, just imagine T Man and yours truly on the Glebe stage in stuffed blue shirts with pillow case hats, singing – there was a reason we were never picked for the school show…)

    1. I had really, really hoped that that event was consigned to the history bin, but by putting it online, you have given it immortality Mr Hempworth.

More importantly, it is indeed great to hear from Professor Buchanan. To be fair, I am not sure any of your communication could be called ‘normal’. Superior. Go with superior. Unless it contradicted anything I said, in which case go with ‘inferior’. But never normal.

And ok I know, Professor, you said ‘normally’, not ‘normal’. Whatever, as Taylor Swift might say.

      Cheers,
      Terrence

      1. Hearing Terrence and “Hempworth” banter back and forth makes me laugh and think of classes at glebe…Brad, you are an inspiration. I’d like to be as brave as you if in a similar situation although I am not sure I would be. One day at a time I guess. Everyone is sending positive thoughts and these updates are so amazing. Megan

  4. So glad to hear that you are feeling better and more coherent. I liked the idea of being on a team together and hope one of my favorite professors continues to gain ground. Thanks to Kate for keeping us current.

  5. Thank you for the post, Brad. I’ve been thinking about you a lot. I’m so glad you are feeling a little better and am sorry you can’t read and write. It makes me want to drive over and read to you, which I’d be happy to do, even if you picked something that goes right over my medievalist head. I’d read it with feeling and put all my best wishes into it.

  8. Hi, Brad! It is so great to hear your words and to know you are feeling better. You have been so brave through this crazy journey, and I am so happy to hear that things are looking up. Steve and I are leaving on our trip to France on Monday, but we’ll be checking in on the blog to see how you are doing and keeping you in our thoughts.
